What are the 3 Types of Long Form Content?

The three types of long form content or evergreen content are podcasts, YouTube, and blogs. Each of these is a longer piece of content compared to social media content and is highly searchable. Long form content is also great for content repurposing and generating organic traffic. Here’s a breakdown of each one:

Podcasts

Podcasts are audio-only content and are similar to radio content. Listeners are able to listen on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc. The appeal of podcast content is that you can listen to your favorite content creators on the go. Since there isn’t a video component, listeners can tune in while doing other things. Many podcasters listen to their favorite shows while washing dishes, driving, going for a walk, etc. When you leverage SEO, your podcast can be found when searching specific keywords in podcast listening apps or on Google.

YouTube

YouTube consists of video content, such as tutorials, video podcasts, etc. While not the most ideal for listening on the go, YouTube videos are a great option for those who need a tutorial or enjoy watching their favorite content creators sharing their thoughts on a specific topic. When you use the right keywords, your YouTube videos can show up in the search results on Google.

Blogs

Blog content is written content made available on your website. Bloggers are able to share their insights and expertise on specific topics that answer their ideal reader’s questions. Like podcasts and YouTube content, leveraging SEO is critical in ensuring that your blog content is showing up on Google. Knowing where to incorporate keywords throughout your blog content is important to SEO success.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself When Deciding on Which of the 3 Types of Long Form Content is Best for You

How Do I Enjoy Creating Content?

Although there are three types of long form content, it doesn’t mean that you will enjoy creating content in each format. I’m a firm believer in creating content in a way that feels good to you. How you create content should be aligned with who you are and your goals. So, if showing up on video isn’t something you enjoy, it will show in your content if you’re forcing yourself to do it. Since there are three options to choose from, you don’t have to choose a format that you don’t actually enjoy. Take time to reflect on how you truly enjoy creating content for your audience, and then decide which format is best for you. You want to choose a long form content format that allows you to show up as your best self.

Which of the 3 Types of Long Form Content Makes the Most Sense for My Current Season of Life?

Another question to ask yourself is which of the three types of long form content works best for my current season of life. Long form content is a time commitment because it is a more in depth piece of content. It’s not a social media post that you can quickly put together, so you want to make sure you consider which type makes sense based on your current capacity.

How Does My Ideal Client Like to Consume Long Form Content?

This question isn’t the ultimate determining factor in choosing your long form content, but you do want to consider how your ideal client enjoys consuming content. You can poll your audience to learn more about how they enjoy consuming content. Creating content in a format that will attract your ideal clients is important, but if it doesn’t make sense for your current season of life, then that’s okay. Long form content is highly searchable, which means using the right keywords to ensure your content is found by the right people is what matters. When someone has a question they want answered now, the content format won’t deter them from consuming the content.
